August 24, 1932  -  May 10, 2024

James “Jim” Samuel Thomson, age 91, lifelong resident of the Gore of Downie, passed away surrounded by his loving family at Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth on Friday, May 10, 2024. Born in Downie Township, son of the late James Alexander and Margretta “Gretta” (McKay) Thomson.

Jim is survived by his true love and best friend of 56 years Elaine (Nichols) Thomson. Proud father of Jim Thomson, Bill (Marcia) Thomson, Lynn (Tony) Koot and Lori (Chad) Hartman. Loving Grandpa to Jacob, Matt, Alicia, Aaron, Jonathan, Michael, Jorja, Cole and Alaina. Jim will be remembered by his brother-in-law and his wife Jim (Joan) Nichols and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was a proud farmer from the “Gore”, an elder of Knox Presbyterian Church Harrington and a Charter member of the Optimist Club of Downie.

Elaine and the family would like to sincerely thank all the wonderful doctors, nurses, PSW’s and staff of St. Marys Memorial Hospital, Stratford General Hospital, ParaMed and Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth. Your thoughtfulness, care and compassion will never be forgotten.

Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law Marguerite and Bill Nichols, his brother John and his wife (Annabelle) Thomson, his sisters Helen and her husband (Bob) Dunseith and Margaret Hislop.

Friends and family are invited to Jim’s visitation on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St, Stratford; and on Wednesday, May 15 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church Harrington, 963727, Road 96, Harrington, ON.
