Joy Dianna Fountain, age 83, of Stratford, passed away suddenly at her residence on Friday, October 25, 2024. Born in Brantford, ON, daughter of the late Ralph Charles and Frances Audrey (Conway) Hawkes. Survived by her true love and best friend of 61 years, Doug Fountain.
Joy was employed with Montieth Montieth Chartered Accountants as a clerical administrator and later with both the Perth County Board of Education and Avon Maitland District School Board as a secretary.
Joy enjoyed many social activities including bowling where she earned many trophies for high single, high triple and high average. Once her duties were finished looking after the kids at home, Joy took up golf and became a member of the Stratford Municipal Golf Course. She always enjoyed the many rounds with her golfing friends. For over 40 years, she also had her bi-weekly game of Rummoli with her card group – the group often took trips together for girl’s weekends.
Joy’s greatest love was her 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Her and Doug would go out of their way to attend as many events as they could including hockey, baseball, softball, volleyball, dance and any of their academic achievements. She was so proud of each and everyone of them. She especially cherished the unexpected visits with her grandchildren, where they would sit together, sharing stories and laughter, as she always enjoyed keeping up with their busy lives.
Joy also spent many hours just sitting outside in the sunshine while reading a book and listening to the birds, her favorite being Cardinals and Blue Jays. Her love and enjoyment for animals was evident as she knew most of the dogs and their owners as they walked by the house.
Loving mother to Fred (Dale), John (Cheryl), Brent (Marianne) and Christine (John) Hruden. The best grandmother to Colton (Caty), Kennedy, Sidoney (Kari), Rachal (Mike), Brett (Ashley), Alexandrea (Allison), Brooke (Travis), Grace, Rem (Kayla) and great grandmother of three. Joy will be fondly remembered by her sister Barbara (Jim) Pogson and her nieces and nephews, Jeff (Deanne), Andy (Dana), Amy Pogson, Dennis (Kara), Jason Schmidt and her great nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Joy was predeceased by her mother and father-in-law Doug and Ruth Fountain and a sister-in-law and her husband Sharyn (Ron) Schmidt. Doug and his family would like to sincerely thank the Perth County Paramedics, Stratford Police and Fire Departments and especially Dr. John Pope for his compassion and professionalism. It will never be forgotten.
Family and Friends are invited to Joy’s visitation on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 at the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St, Stratford. Joy’s funeral service will take place on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment to follow in Avondale Cemetery.
