November 6, 1939 - October 28, 2024
This avid traveller, tennis enthusiast and jazz aficionado passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 28, 2024, in Stratford. He led an adventurous life when he could and read about other countries, other cultures and political intrigues when he could no longer get away on adventures with his backpack, his Lonely Planet and his flip flops. Ali was born in Kampala, Uganda in 1939 and was the fifth eldest of his seven sisters and brothers. After travelling to England for school he met his best friend and partner, Jean, at Leicester University where he studied Pharmacy, and she studied English and History. Later, as one of his biggest adventures, Ali travelled to Canada with his family from East Africa into the depths of a southern Ontario winter. An iconoclast to the last, Ali lived life on his own terms. He embraced difference, he loved to hear about other people’s lives and experiences and was accepting of everyone, without judgment.
He was very much loved by his wife Jean (Whittaker) and his two daughters, Shauna and Farah. He was the source of much silliness and laughter for his four grandchildren, Petros, Clara, Theo and Ben. Everyone who knew Ali will remember his quick mind, his kindness and humour.
We thank everyone at Greenwood Court LTC who cared for him and became a part of his family during his last two years.
