West Perth parent defrauded of $3K in text scam

A West Perth resident has been defrauded of her money after receiving a text-scam.

On February 7th, 2025 members of the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) launched an investigation after receiving information that a parent was defrauded of $3,000 after receiving a text message from someone claiming to be their daughter asking for money.

The OPP is continuing to investigate this matter and want to remind everyone to beware of potential scams by following these tips;

  • Be suspicious of calls or texts that require immediate action.
  • Never send money or any other funds to unverified persons.
  • Confirm the identity and legitimacy of the story from the family member before completing any transactions.

The Perth County OPP is requesting that anyone with information related to this investigation call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a secure web-tip at www.cstip.ca, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2000.
