Nearly 150 drivers have been charged in the first two weeks of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) West Region's "Stay Focused" campaign.
The campaign is aimed at reducing the number of deaths and injuries caused by inattentive driving on Ontario's roads and highways, police said in a release.
Since the "Stay Focused" campaign began on March 1, OPP West Region officers, alongside members of the West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement team (TIME), have charged 146 drivers under Ontario's distracted driving law.
Polce said drivers who violate the province's distracted driving law face significant penalties.
The "Stay Focused" campaign continues until April 4.
The OPP is encouraging people of all ages, especially passengers, to take a firm stand against those who endanger their lives and the lives of others by using their cell phones or engaging in other forms of distractions behind the wheel.
