Donald Harris Gibson, age 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Rotary Hospice in Stratford after a courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Brussels ON, Don was the son of the late Gerald and Isobel (MacTavish) Gibson.
Don spent the majority of his life in London where he and his wife of 45 years, Catherine (Cathy) Maxine Gibson raised their two beloved sons Mike (Nikki) and Jeff (Carrie). He cherished his sons and always took immense pride in their lives and accomplishments.
Don was a proud and loving Papa to his grandchildren Cam, Macy, Mya, Makayla (Tevin), and Annie (Nathaniel). He found great joy in attending all their extracurriculars and adored every moment spent supporting them.
He will be deeply missed by his siblings Mary (Maurice) Douma, Peggy (Bill) Aitchison as well as his sister-in-law Kate Gibson. Don's brother and sister-in-laws, John (Debbie) Eaton and Mary (Myron) Hladyniuk will also hold him in their hearts. Don will be forever loved by his many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Don was predeceased by his brother and best friend Peter and father and mother-in-law, Dave and Beth Eaton.
Don had a fulfilling and rewarding career with North Pole Trim & Supplies in London where he was known for his hard work, dedication and integrity. Don had a deep love for the outdoors, particularly in Muskoka. He found great joy in boating on the lakes, exploring the waters on his Sea-Doo and fishing. These activities were a true reflection of his passion for the natural beauty of Muskoka and his love for the outdoors. He loved working with wood, building birdhouses and fixing things. He found pleasure in sharing his woodworking skills and enjoyed puttering around with various projects to keep himself busy.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Rotary Hospice for their exceptional care, professionalism, and compassion.
In the coming weeks a Celebration of Life will be held. We invite you to celebrate Don’s life, enjoy his favourite time of day “Happy Hour” and share your treasured memories of him with us. Date and time to follow.
