Carson Harmer is making the most of his year with the Saginaw Spirit, and the results are sparkling.
The 17-year-old St. Marys native recorded three goals, and two assists in two games last week for the Spirit, and then he registered his first career OHL hat-trick in a 6-3 win over Niagara on December 29. That led to his being named OHL Rookie of the Week on December 29.
Harmer leads all rookies in the OHL with 25 points (14 goals and 11 assists) in 35 games this season.
Harmer previously played for the Stratford Warriors of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, where he tallied 65 points in 46 games and was named to the GOJHL All-Rookie Team.
Elsewhere, Nico Armellin of the St. Mary Lincolns was named goaltender of the month.
The rookie goalie finished the month with a 3-0-0 record, a 1.67 goals against average, and a .947 save percentage.
Armellin leads the GOJHL in goals against average at 1.63 and save percentage .942., and represented the Lincs in the GOJHL Top Prospects game in Elmira on December 27.
