One of the top rivalries in the Ontario Super Hockey League will be renewed this weekend as the Stratford Fighting Irish take on the Alvinston Killer Bees.
Stratford dominated the regular season match up last year winning twice, but the Bees scored revenge in the playoffs when they eliminated the Irish in six games to advance to the finals. The first match-up this season between the two takes place on Saturday in Alvinston.
In Junior 'B' action, the Stratford Warriors (10-4) welcome Brantford to the Allman Arena on Friday night. Stratford will then head to Cambridge Saturday for a clash with the Winterhawks.
Elsewhere in the GOJHL on Friday night, the 12-1 St. Marys Lincolns welcome the 10-4-1 Caledonia Corvairs to the Pyramid RC. Following that game, the Lincolns will head to Welland on Sunday.
Local Provincial Junior Hockey League teams are looking to get back into the win column this weekend. The Mitchell Hawks host Wingham on Friday night. The Hawks are hoping home ice brings them some luck, as they haven’t won since beating Goderich on home ice earlier this month. Mitchell is then in action on Sunday against Fergus. The Tavistock Braves (4-9) meanwhile have lost seven in a row and are looking to rebound as they host Woodstock. The Braves will then be back in action on Sunday against Dorchester.
Also taking place this weekend is the PJHL Top Prospects Games. The PJHL East takes on the South while the PJHL West takes on the North. Representing the PJHL North top prospects is Stratford’s Ryan Gansevles who is representing the Hawks at the showcase.
