Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board has changed the date of its scheduled Professional Development day from April 19, to April 8.
The move is a precautionary measure with a rare solar eclipse anticipated on April 8, the school board said in a media release.
There are public health risks associated with the event, including severe eye damage if a person were to look at the eclipse without safety measures.
The eclipse is predicted to coincide with the dismissal and transportation home of students and staff at the end of the school day.
Trustees made the decision after consultation with various groups, including the joint school year calendar committee, unions, the Avon Maitland District School Board, and nearby school districts. The decision was finalized during the regular board meeting Monday.
The board will also consult with Huron Perth Public Health to assist families in planning for a safe eclipse and send the required communication to families as soon as possible.
