NEWS RELEASE
GET CONCERNED STRATFORD
*************************
Get Concerned Stratford, the community group that helped to stop the Xinyi Glass Factory, is the subject of a new book detailing the history and background of the protest. The book is written as an educational document for other communities, and should prove useful in future community actions.

The book’s authors, Sam Denby and Mike Balkwill, will attend the launch, along with members of Get Concerned, as will Loreena McKennitt, whose own group, ‘Wise Communities,’ is also chronicled in the book for its large and inspirational part of the protest.

Get Concerned Stratford has continued to shine light on the actions of Stratford Council, from 2018 to the present, using Freedom of Information requests, closed meeting investigations and complaints to professional associations. Much of the hidden information was recently revealed, and some of this truth-finding process is chronicled in the book. “More will come out,” says Mike Sullivan, a member of Get Concerned, “although that information is still subject to appeals.”

The lesson of “A Winning Campaign” is that without an open and democratic local government we cannot expect to overcome the environmental hurdles that face us. Please join us to celebrate the publication of this inspiring and very useful document of the Ontario environmental movement.

Sunday, November 24, 2024 at 2:30 p.m.
Falstaff Family Centre, 35 Waterloo Street N., Stratford

Everyone is welcome to attend, and light refreshments will be served.
