Annual 'Carol Fest' event to support the Stratford House of Blessing Food Bank

Avondale United Church, Stratford is excited to welcome you back for another iteration of its annual “Carol Fest” on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m.

This lively and enjoyable event is a fundraiser for the Stratford House of Blessing. Free will offering will be taken with all proceeds going to the House of Blessing Children’s Christmas Toy Program. Guests this year include Jennifer Paquette, a local writer, director, editor and author of Children’s Books, collaborator, and storyteller. Her love of storytelling began as a preteen, followed by acting parts in high school. Jennifer studied, taught theatre and toured with a theatre company. Jennifer loved working with young artists. She is a Theatre Ontario award-winning director and designer and a prize-winning short story writer. Since moving to Stratford, her focus has shifted primarily to writing. Jennifer has a wonderful ability to tell a story drawing her audience into her vision.

Musical guest, the Downie Street Collective, is a local dynamic band, known for their eclectic sound and spirited performances, is sure to entertain. Downie Street Collective offers a unique musical experience that resonates with audiences of all ages. Their music captivates audiences with their authentic and engaging performances; they have the ability to connect with the crowd, sharing stories and emotions through their music. As is tradition, the Stratford Concert Band, under the baton of Laurence Gauci, will lead the carols and play some festive favourites. The Concert Band, which has been entertaining Stratford since 1907, was affiliated with the GTR and then CNR in 1923. In the 1960s, the band began an association with the Royal Canadian Legion. Since 1992, the Stratford Concert Band has been an independent group, with members coming from towns between Goderich and Guelph to play together. They are well known to be one of the best community bands in Ontario, taking 1st place at many march and concert competitions. Rounding out the entertainment is a Community Choir composed of area singers, assembled by Avondale’s Director of Music, Dan Van Winden. There will be an opportunity to sing along to seasonal tunes. Refreshments will be served at intermission. Join us for this wonderful evening which will prepare you for the merriment of the season and the spirit of giving.
