PERTH COUNTY - As everyone prepares for the Thanksgiving weekend, the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) joins Canadian policing partners focused on keeping motorists safe during Operation Impact, a traffic campaign which runs from Friday, Oct. 11  to Monday, Oct. 14, 2024.

Two hundred and ninety-five lives have been lost on OPP patrolled roads so far this year. Thanksgiving weekend sees some of the heaviest traffic volumes of the year on Ontario roads, and the goal of this initiative is to deter aggressive and other high-risk behaviours to reduce the possibility of serious and fatal injuries.

During the four-day traffic campaign, officers will conduct robust enforcement and education on alcohol/drug-impaired driving, aggressive and inattentive/distracted driving, as well as lack of or improper use of seatbelts - all main causes of death and injury on Canadian roadways. Drivers are reminded to always drive defensively and safely.

Safe driving is everyone's responsibility. Please do your part to keep our roads safe this holiday long weekend.
