October 3, 1932  -  December 17, 2024

William (Bill) McCann, 92, passed away peacefully at Stratford Rotary Hospice surrounded by his loving family on December 17, 2024.

Born in Ellice Township on October 3, 1932, the son of the late William & Catherine (Curran) McCann. Bill is survived by his true love and best friend, Ella Mae (Davidson). They celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary this past September.

Proud father of Glen (Kelly) McCann, Tom (friend Nicole) McCann. Loving Grandpa of Allison (Mark) Kuhl, and Reilly McCann. Proud great grandpa of Georgia and Ethan Kuhl.

Bill will be remembered by sisters-in-law Dorreen McCann, Shirley Friend, Rhea Davidson, and his brother-in-law Jack (Jean) Davidson, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by two sons, William Dennis in infancy and Al McCann, along with Bill’s siblings Leonard (Rita), Cecil (Anne), Velma (Lloyd) Shroeder, Vernie (Marie), and Eugene McCann and his in-laws Bill and Lorene (Querengesser), and brother and sisters-in-law Vera (Charlie) Spendiff, Ross (Irene) Davidson, Harold (Martha) Davidson, Dorothy (Harry) Sproule, Frank Friend and Robert Davidson.

Bill’s strong work ethic began on his family farm and moved from there to working at Finnigan’s Dairy, several years at the CNR Shops, followed by a 35-year career as foreman at Domtar Packaging in St. Mary’s.

Bill was an avid Blue Jay and Maple Leaf fan, but mostly a fan of his family which is what made him the happiest in life. He loved to travel coast to coast with his camper and his trip to Alaska ranks among his favourites. He loved following his kids, grandkids and great grandkids to ball parks and arenas, as well as a cherished card game with his great grandchildren.

Bill’s kind and gentle approach to life allowed him to make friends wherever he went. On any given Friday, Bill and Ella could be found with coffee shop friends or at lunch with their sons.

Our family is forever grateful for the many doctors, nurses and all other support workers (from Woodland Towers, Stratford General Hospital, Stratford Rotary Hospice and the Heart Clinic) for their compassion and dedication to our dad.

Bill was extremely proud of his family as they were of him, and he has left an enduring legacy for us all.

In keeping with Bill’s wishes, the family will honour his life privately with interment in Avondale Cemetery. A celebration of Bill’s life will be announced by the family at a later date. Considerations of sympathy can be made to Stratford Rotary Hospice, Cystic Fibrosis or charity of one’s choice through the W. G.
