August 27, 1946  -  December 25, 2024

It is with heavy hearts and incredible memories that we announce the passing of our wonderful wife, mother and friend, Judy Gibson. On Christmas Day, Judy joined the love of her life, Bruce, in heaven. She leaves behind their children, Jodi (John McConnell) and Lori (Dale Thomas) and her three beautiful granddaughters, Edison, Hannah and Heidi. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Hildegard Gibson (Bob Gibson, deceased) and her brother Bill Douglas (Marion Douglas, deceased)

Born August 27th, 1946, Judy has been a lifelong resident of Stratford (except for a brief stint in London as a teenager). She graduated from Teacher’s College and began a long and successful teaching career. She taught at Juliet, Sprucedale, and Falstaff Public Schools. Her passion for education and love of children led her to become a Special Education Teacher, where she was brilliant and changed the lives of so many students.

Judy will forever be remembered as a loving, kind, and compassionate person, who always took care of everyone. Always there to offer support, advice, and of course cookies, she became “mom” to so many people. She gave her time selflessly. Her volunteer work with the Alzheimer’s Society was very close to her heart. Judy cherished the holiday season and loved to invite people into her home to enjoy food, laughter, music, and her famous Christmas village. There were always trays of homemade shortbread cookies, peanut butter balls, and chocolate covered pretzels to snack on.

In the summer, she loved hosting people in her beautiful yard, for a swim in the pool, a cup of tea on the porch, or a cold drink while taking in the beauty of her lovely gardens that she was so proud of. Judy’s door was always open. She welcomed family, friends and even strangers with open arms. Children adored her and adults cherished her. She was truly an angel on earth.

Judy has spent nearly the last three years living at River Gardens, and we can't thank the staff enough for the unconditional love and support they have given during that time.

A special thank you to Marnie and Stan Hazle, Jane and Dave Baetz, Joyce Skinner, Barb Kirwin, Sue Brunskill, Paul Comfort, Marilyn Thornton, Brenda Lalonde, and her friends in The Club group for your visits and unbelievable support. You were always there when needed.

We will be having a Celebration of Life for Judy on Saturday January 4th from 2:00 – 4:00 PM in the Reception Centre of the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St., Stratford. Donations in Judy’s memory can be made to The Alzheimer Society of Perth through the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St., Stratford. 519.271.7411 www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
