Nine local games in weekend hockey action and a local trade

Warriors to host minor hockey night Friday when they welcome the Sugar Kings to town

The Stratford Warriors are going to have a lot more support in the stands when they welcome the Elmira Sugar Kings to town Friday night.

It’s Stratford Minor Hockey Association night at the Allman and the Warriors will look to eclipse 1,000 people in attendance for two weeks in a row. Puck drop for the Warriors and Sugar Kings is set for 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the Warriors head to Strathroy to take on the Rockets. The teams have split the season series 1-1 with both games being lopsided. In their first meeting the Rockets shutout the Warriors 3-0. In November when the teams met again, the Warriors rocked the Rockets 5-1. 

The team announced on Facebook that forward Joshua Granowicz has been traded to the Sarnia Legionnaires in exchange for a Player Development Fee. In a statement on Facebook the team said “We thank Josh for his contributions to the organization this season and wish him the best of luck in Sarnia.”

The Western Conference-leading St. Marys Lincolns hit the ice twice this weekend, starting with a Friday night home date against the Kitchener-Waterloo Siskins. St. Marys is 2-0 this season against the Siskins, and they'll look to make it 3-0 when the puck drops at the Pyramid Centre at 7:30 p.m.

On Sunday night, the Lincolns head to Chatham to face the Maroons. 

In senior action, the Stratford Fighting Irish head to Delhi for a return date with the Flames Saturday night. The last time the teams met was January 4, which saw the Fighting Irish beat-up Delhi 7-1.

Taking a look at the Provincial Junior Hockey League four games on tap for regional teams. 

The Tavistock Braves will face some stiff competition this weekend. The Braves host Dorchester on Friday night in their lone game of the weekend, while the Mitchell Hawks will be in action twice. They start off with a home game against the Fergus Whalers before heading to Mount Forest on Sunday to square off against the Patriots.
