Stratford District Secondary School held their athletic banquet on Wednesday, June 19, celebrating over 400 students who participated in the athletic program this year, and to honour coaches, community volunteers and support staff.
The following is a list of the 2023-24 award winners:
Golden Bear Award: to the athlete(s) who have demonstrated an outstanding contribution to the high school athletics program throughout their high school career. This year’s winners are Sydney Taylor and Edmund Sauder.
Golden Paws Award: to the student(s) who have done an exemplary job of assisting with the running and administration of athletics at SDSS, in the form of being a team manager, score keeper, officiating, fundraising or other activities. This year’s winners are Kieran Butler and Ella de Graaf.
Golden Spirit Award: this is awarded to a teammate or individual who demonstrates a true love for the sport. They’ve demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship towards teammates, opponents and officials, and they always attend practices and give their best effort. This year’s winners are Jaymee Vosper and Alanah McIlroy.
Principal’s Award: awarded to the student who has been committed to athletics at SDSS while maintaining an exemplary academic average in their studies. This year’s winners are Luke Feltham and Georgia Neely.
Junior Athletes of the Year: awards given to the junior athletes who excelled athletically throughout the current school year. This year’s winners are Ryan Cassone and Lucy Thompson.
Senior Athletes of the Year: awards given to the senior athletes who excelled athletically throughout the current school year. This year’s winners are Mark Barton and Ava McMillan.
