The Stratford Fighting Irish have released a statement concerning former head coach Jamie Petrie and the assault charges he is facing following an incident in Elora on Friday, Dec. 13.

The statement reads: The Stratford Fighting Irish and more specifically Jamie Petrie, want to say we are truly sorry for the uncertainty and concern the events of this past week have caused. As an organization, we will continue to provide excellent hockey and a great environment at the Allman for all our games. To our fans, please continue to be a part of the Irish family. We look forward to seeing everyone at the arena this Saturday. To our valued partners, we greatly appreciate the outpouring of your support in the last 72 hours.

Petrie became involved in an altercation with Elora Rocks president Rich Wigmore following a game between Stratford and Elora December 13. No details of the incident have been made public, but Wellington County OPP charged Petrie with assault as a result. He is scheduled to appear in Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Guelph January 17.
