The beginning of September means back to familiar routines, including the return of United Way Perth-Huron (UWPH)’s annual campaign. To celebrate the start of another campaign year, United Way announces its Stratford kickoff event, Friday, Sept. 20 in Market Square behind Stratford City Hall from noon until 1:30 p.m.
“We’re happy to be back and launching another campaign,” said UWPH Manager Community Development, Stratford and Area, Elizabeth Cooper. “United Way has a tremendous impact locally. We want to celebrate with the donors and organizations who help make us successful. We hope to see everyone there!”
The Stratford kickoff is an opportunity to gather in support of UWPH’s work in support of vulnerable local people and hear the 2024-25 campaign goal. The needs-based goal aims to continue building on UWPH’s current work addressing pressing local issues including homelessness, mental health, and access to services through initiatives such as the Stratford Connection Centre, the Urgent Needs Fund, United Housing, research and advocacy.
The lunchtime event features a gourmet hot dog, coleslaw, cheese strings, a drink and a chocolate chip cookie. A dietary option including a vegetarian hot dog and gluten-free bun will also be available. Food is prepared by Local Community Food Centre chefs along with volunteers from Sun Life. Meal contributions are courtesy of Black Swan Brewing, Brch & Wyn, Craig & Jess’ NoFrills Stratford, Giant Tiger, the Grain Farmers of Ontario, the Livery Yard, the Local Community Food Centre and Saputo. Orr Insurance is also bringing their vintage fire truck to the event. Tickets are $20 in advance and are available online, at the UWPH offices at 32 Erie Street or by calling 519-271-7730.
