Chris Campbell from Campbell’s Catering has a reputation for being a bit of a mad scientist in the kitchen. And for the Country Roots Fresh Market’s Christmas open house on November 16, he’s got something special cooked up.

Fried chicken breast hand helds, boobie burgers and knocker fries. Yes, you read that right, and yes, there is a theme here.

Campbell will have his canteen truck on site to serve up those specific goodies, but the boobie-inspired fun doesn’t stop there: boobie cupcakes, boob cookies and more are all there for the taking this Saturday as Country Roots helps raise funds to support one of their own. Co-owner Sarah Nairn, a local florist who does arrangements for Country Roots was diagnosed with Stage 3 HER2 breast cancer so her friends and coworkers have rallied to support her emotionally and financially.

Hannah Bickell of Country Roots said the shop has been running different fundraising efforts since the start of November, but the Christmas open house is the crown jewel of their push.

“We have boob cupcakes and cookies, and all the proceeds from those go right to Sarah to help cover the additional expenses she’s incurred during her treatment,” Bickell said. “We’re going to have a raffle during the open house this Saturday with prizes from local businesses all around town, and all that money will go to Sarah as well. Anything that is left over will be donated to breast cancer research.”

The Christmas open house began as the shop’s ‘Christmas in the Barn’, with Nairn’s floral arrangements being a popular draw. Bickell said the Country Roots crew wanted to do something to show their support for Nairn but also make sure she was able to handle the extra costs that come with her treatments.

“I think she’s got most of the actual treatments covered but there is lot of other stuff, like the hospital parking,” she said. “That alone is crazy, and there’s a bunch of other stuff she’s going to need. I know she has a little bit of a hard time accepting help, but I also know she really appreciates it and she’s astonished with the amount of support that she’s got so far; when we posted to Facebook about this and got so many comments and likes, she had no idea just how many people she’d affected and how big a part of the community she is.”

Country Roots Fresh Market is located at 1971 Perth Road 163, just north of Rannoch. The Christmas open house runs on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
