HPPH helped over 500 Anabaptist women and children last year

The Mother and Young Child Clinic provides care to young women and children up to the age of six

Over 500 women and children from the Anabaptist plain communities used a specialized clinic the Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) provides.

The HPPH released the 2022 numbers for the Mother and Young Child Clinic (MYCC) in the Medical Officer of Health’s April report.

The MYCC provides nurse practitioner services to the Anabaptist plain communities in Perth County, with the goal of providing much needed health services to an underserved group of people, specifically for young women in their ‘reproductive years’ along with infants and children up to the age of six.

In 2022, 572 clients, 147 of whom were new, visited the MYCC 1,161 times. Almost half went with an acute health concern.

With three locations in Hesson, Milverton, and Listowel, they offer reproductive health, immunization, child development, and acute child health services.

Of that total, 31 per cent went for a well visit, 18 per cent for pre-conception, prenatal, or postpartum care, and only two per cent for mental health concerns.

As noted in the report, translation was required for 22 per cent of the visits and around 30 per cent did not have OHIP coverage or a primary care provider.
