NEWS RELEASE
UPPER THAMES RIVER CONSERVATION AUTHORITY
*************************
This year, the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) is hosting the Children’s Water Festival at Pittock Conservation Area in Woodstock, Ont., from May 13 – 16. Elementary students in grades two through five will enjoy hands-on activities to learn about the importance of water in their daily lives.
“Each year, over 3,000 students attend the Children’s Water Festival,” says Linda Smith, Water Festival Coordinator. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for the next generation of leaders to become environmental stewards and learn about water in their communities.”
Festival activities directly relate to the Ontario Elementary Curriculum in Science, Mathematics, Health and Physical Education, and Literacy. On May 15, the activities will be offered in both English and French.
How to Register: schools interested in bringing their students to the festival must submit an Expression of Interest form between Jan. 15 – 24. The UTRCA will accept one form per school. Completing the form does not guarantee admission to the festival and priority will be given to schools in Woodstock and Oxford County.
Successful registrants will be contacted by the festival coordinator by the end of January.
New this year: attending schools will be required to cover a portion of the registration fee. The total fee is $12/student including bus transportation, but the Thames Valley District School Board and the London District Catholic School Board are generously covering $7/student for their respective schools. This leaves the remaining $5/student to be covered by schools. Busing will continue to be booked by the Water Festival Coordinator.
The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority and festival partners are looking forward to bringing classrooms outside to learn about water in a fun and engaging environment.
