Stratford council votes tonight on a motion to suspend the operation of the Respectful Workplace Policy, which was used to ban residents for speaking at council meetings. 

Three council meetings were cancelled when banned residents appeared. The residents contend they were civil and followed decorum and the ban was for the content of their speeches, which is illegal.

“Ontario courts hare ruled that speaking at a council meeting is protected under the charter.  Neither of us were threatening or violent”, said Mike Sullivan.  “Council perhaps didn’t like being told by an independent investigator that they were regularly acting in violation of the municipal act, but banning speakers is not the answer.“
