Phyllis Anne Schooley, age 90, of Stratford passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on June 17, 2024. Born in Stratford, February 17, 1934, daughter of the late Herman and Anna Schultz.

Beloved wife of the late Vincent Basil Schooley who predeceased her in 1982. Loving mother of Dennis (Beth), Susan, Cathy Detlor (Jim), Al (Twila Tinning), Pat. Grandmother of Robert (Pamila), James, Sarah (Jared), Amy (Tim), Lee, Mathew (Amanda), Christine, Heather, Jay (Sara), Ty (Melissa), Kayden, Zachary. Great grandmother of 12 and great great grandmother to 3. Also survived by daughter-in-law Debra Schooley, sisters Rita St. Amand, Ronald Schultz (Carol), sisters-in-law Grace Schultz, Barbara McKinnon, Shirley Schooley and many nieces, nephews and their families.

Predeceased by her son Larry, sisters Esther Schultz, Jean Franceschini (Tony), Marie Gardner (Joseph), brother James Schultz, Robert Schultz (Bonnie) and brother-in-law William St. Amand.

Phyllis loved playing cards and board games, although it was more about family, friends and camaraderie than the actual games. Whether it was after a family dinner on Centre Street, or hundreds of times at the Bluewater Beach cottage in Goderich, or with the horseshoe gang, or with her weekly card group friends, or at McCarthy place, she just loved to play cards, dominos, or board games.

She was also a bowler in her younger years with husband Vince, and the two of them were regulars at the Legion dances and events. She led an active life and left many smiles and laughs behind. Phyllis was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Church and the Catholic Women’s League.

Visitation for friends and family will be held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Thursday, June 20, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, 96 Huron Street, Stratford on Friday, June 21, at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
