December 22, 1930  -  November 14, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vittorio (Giacinto) Santini of Stratford, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished friend. He departed this world peacefully, surrounded by family, on November 14, 2024 at the age of 93.

Vittorio was born on December 22, 1930 in Pedivigliano, Cosenza, Italy. Fifty-six years ago, he embarked on an incredible and courageous journey, leaving behind familiar surroundings and loved ones to seek a brighter future abroad. With his wife, Carmela, he led their young family of five children from Italy to Canada in search of a life of improved opportunity and security. As a father, he taught by example, leading with integrity and an unfailing work ethic.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Carmela, and their five children: Dominic (Melody Moldowin), Maria (Steven McNaughton), Petronilla (David Tsicios), Frank (Anna Smith), and Delia (Jorg Reiche). He is forever cherished as Nonno by his ten grandchildren: Victor, Nathan (Cheryl) and Yva Santini; Jennifer (Jeff) Atchison and Adam McNaughton (Stephanie); Drew (Spencer) and Tahra Santini; and Lazaro (Parmida), Julian (Miriam) and Ethan Reiche. He is lovingly remembered by his nine great-grandchildren: Austin, Michael and Raiden Santini; Samuel and William Atchison; Ella and Henry McNaughton; Roman Reiche; and Estelle Reiche.

He was predeceased by his parents, Domenico and Maria, and all of his siblings: Giovanino, Marianina, Lodia, and Erselia.

After 30 years working at Blackstone, in retirement he found joy and purpose in his work at home. Along with Carmela he tended a garden that was the envy of family and neighbours and a testament to his dedication and quiet nurturing. He could work twine, stakes, and a pocket-knife like an artist works with oils. His hard work allowed them until this day to maintain their home in Pedivigliano. He loved his yearly trips home to Italy where he was happiest and the most proud milling around their property, tending to his beautiful fig and olive trees. An enduring symbol of him at home on Brunswick Street, the beloved pear tree is more than just part of the garden landscape but a happy remembrance for his grandchildren who patiently waited for Nonno to say they were ready for picking.

Vittorio, Giacinto, Papa, Nonno will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of his family. His life was a blessing, and his memory is a treasure to all who were fortunate enough to know him.

The family would like to thank all those who helped to allow Vittorio to remain at home as long as possible. The family thanks Luke, Melanie, and Halyna for their gentle and kind support. Special thanks also to Drs Irvine, Wu and Dhillon for their guidance and care.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Stratford General Hospital Foundation or Avon Thames Catholic Family of Parishes may be made through the funeral home.

Visitation and Funeral Mass details are unknown at this time and will be posted when when available.
