On January 29th, 2022, Milton Leslie McManus passed away peacefully at Spruce Lodge in his 96th year. He was the beloved husband of Margaret Joan (Wells), the dear brother of Vivian Thompson and Barry McManus, and a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews. Born in Colgate, Saskatchewan, December 29th, 1926, Milton was the son of the late Hamilton and Ruby (Shaw) McManus. With his family, he moved to the Stratford area in 1936 He was raised in the family business and he spent most of his career managing Stratford Coach Lines which operated from 1947-1983.
While successful at business, Milton’s real passion was for adventure. A gourmet food tour of Europe and a once-in-a-lifetime trip around the world are among the many wonderful travels he and Margaret Joan shared. He took several of his nieces and nephews to Expo ‘67, went on safari in Africa and trekked in Nepal. A talented photographer, Milton captured many lasting memories of trips and precious family times that will be treasured for years to come. Even when he couldn’t travel any more, Milton’s keen interest in the world could be seen as he followed current events, was an avid reader, and enjoyed researching his family history. He was a great supporter of the arts and enjoyed the Stratford Festival. He will be remembered for his kindness and generosity.
Along with his parents, Milton was predeceased by his brother Allan McManus and his wife Helen, his sister-in-law Barbara (Barry) McManus, his brothers-in-law Barry (Vivian) Thompson and Stanley Wells, as well as his sister-in-law, Lucille Croswell, and her husband Morley. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on April 29th 2022 from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. Interment at Avondale Cemetery.
