August 17, 1941 - January 14, 2025
With great sadness, we announce the passing of John Macaulay on January 14, 2025, at Stratford General Hospital, with his beloved wife, Carole, by his side. John faced his battle with cancer with courage and grace.
John was predeceased by his first wife, Catherine (2009), and his sister, Susan (2017). He is lovingly remembered by his sister Helen and her husband, Alan, as well as his brother-in-law, Michael. He was a cherished uncle to his nephews and niece and held a special place in the hearts of Carole’s extended family.
Born in Hudson, Quebec, John was a proud graduate of Bishop’s University. He went on to serve in the Canadian Military before building a diverse and impactful career, primarily focused on Human Resources. John was the embodiment of a true gentleman—loving, kind, and generous. He had a calm and happy presence, loved to tell jokes and was full of laughter. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he was a dedicated runner and yoga practitioner. He found much joy in playing the piano, singing, and indulging in fine dining experiences. John dearly loved dogs and could never resist stopping to chat with them—and their owners. To the end, John always looked at life “with a glass half full”.
In John’s memory, donations to the Stratford Perth Rotary Hospice would be greatly appreciated. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
