October 29, 1929  -  January 5, 2025

Harriet Grover-Chmara passed away at the Stratford General Hospital on Sunday January 5, 2025 at the age of 95, after a lingering illness.

Harriet was a graduate of U of Toronto Engineering (Met 5T2). She spent much of her adult life in mining towns, following the career of Mining Engineer husband Daniel, but was never able to find a position in her field. When her children were older she taught high school Science and Maths for a few years, then worked at the Post Office in Falconbridge, Ontario until retirement.

In later life Harriet and Dan were adventurous travelers of the world, with extended stays in far-flung regions, highlighted by a 4-month overland trek across Africa by truck/van, 5 months in Australia and New Zealand, and a tour of India by railway sleeping car! Fellow travelers from those adventures became life-long friends who continued to write and occasionally drop in up to the present. Harriet eventually settled down in the River Gardens Retirement Residence in Stratford, where her brother Warren also took residence, and where she lived from 2017 until her recent illness.

Predeceased by parents George A. Grover II (1940) and Vida I. Harris (1951), husband Daniel Chmara (2015) and brothers George A. Grover III (2009) and Warren M.H. Grover (2022). Fondly remembered by son Douglas (Theresa Crosby) and daughter Patricia (Peter Abma), grandkids Cary (Amanda), Brendan, Keagan and Cameron, and nieces and nephews, notably Paula Grover, who lives locally and visited Harriet frequently.

By family request there will be no visitation or funeral service. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice through the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford. 519.271.7411 www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
