Lubbertje (Betty) Beltz

Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel. We remember with thanksgiving what God has done through His servant Betty.

Lubbertje (“Betty”) Noordhof was born on June 13, 1924 to Klaas and Hinke Noordhof in Groningen, the Netherlands. The family emigrated to western Canada and settled on a small farm near Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, where Betty was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Due to WW2, the family moved to Stratford, Ontario. They were met at the train by the Lutheran pastor and soon became active members of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. As secretary of the church Walther League, Betty wrote to members who were serving in the war. One fellow, Dave, wrote back. Mutual friends set them up on a date, which began a lifelong love for each other.

Betty and Dave were married June 12, 1948 and were blessed with two children, David and Lorraine. Betty had a deep faith and trust in the Lord. She was a hard worker with a caring heart and the ability to listen and encourage, gifts she put to good use during her work career as a supervisor at Novatronics. She served in the Ladies Aid at church and taught Sunday School for many years. Betty also invested a lot of time and energy in her family. She put the best construction on things and loved unconditionally. Her funny expressions and antics gave the family lots of laughs and cherished memories. On October 2, 2023, at the age of 99 years, 3 months, and 19 days, Betty’s prayer was answered, and God called her home to heaven. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Lorraine (Terence) Groth; grandchildren Emilie (Aaron) Rudzinski, Katie Groth, Justin (Abby) Groth, Allison (Alex) Wortmann, and Abbie (Keith) Boersma; great-grandchildren Sophia, Lydia, Clara, Nicholas, Emma, and Zachary Rudzinski, Caroline, August, and James Groth, and Nolan and Zoe Wortmann; brother Allen; sisters-in-law Doreen Noordhof and Audrey Beltz; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Dave (2013), son David (1976), sisters Aggie (Don Richards, Ken Burns) and baby Marie, brothers Duart, Claude, Joe, and Peter, sisters-in-law Ann Noordhof, Bea Beltz, May Mantz, and Edna Saxton, and brothers-in-law Tom, Roy, and Gordon Beltz, Pat Mantz, and Ken Saxton.

Friends and family may call at W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St., Stratford on Tuesday, October 10, from 3 to 5 p.m., and at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 115 Cambria St., Stratford, on Wednesday, October 11, at 10 a.m., until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Rev.
