Taking a closer look at local hockey teams before the new year

Warriors and Lincolns look to keep the pace, Fighting Irish look to keep winning, while Mitchell and Tavistock look to rebound

The holiday season is here, and for some local hockey teams, that means an extended break. How has the season been going so far for our regional teams?

 

STRATFORD WARRIORS

Record: 19-9-2-0

Top Scorers: Cole Lewis leads the Warriors with 29 points (15 goals, 14 assists). Lewis also leads the team in goals. He is tied with Dax Vader and Dracen Campbell with 14 assists.

Goalies: Crease time has been fairly even. Carter McDougall has an 11-5-2 record with a 2.40 goals against average and a .911 save percentage. Chase Furlong meanwhile is 7-4 on the season. He has a 1.91 goals against average and a .930 save percentage.

Next Game: The Warriors will welcome the London Nationals to the Allman Arena on January 3. The teams have only met once this season, and it was a 3-2 win for the Warriors.

 

ST. MARYS LINCOLNS

Record: 21-6-1-0

Top Scorers: It’s a two dog race atop the scoring lead for the Lincolns. Jaden Lee and Owen Voortman each sit at 33 points. That said neither leads the team in goals or assists. The leading goal scorer is Luca Spagnolo with 18 goals. Chase MacQueen-Spence leads the team in assists with 21. 

Goalies: Goaltending has been solid for the Lincolns. Colby Booth-Housego is 11-3-1 on the season with a 1.87 goals against average, and a .933 save percentage. Nico Armellin is 10-3 on the season with a 1.63 goals against average, and a .942 save percentage. 

Next Game: The Lincolns are back in action on January 3 when they host Komoka at the Pyramid Rec Centre. This will be the first meeting between the teams this season. 

 

STRATFORD FIGHTING IRISH


Record: 8-7

Top Scorers: Jaden Peca leads the way for the Fighting Irish with 22 points. Graham Brulotte leads the team with 10 goals, while Peca leads the team in assists with 14. 

Goalies: It’s been goalie by committee this season for the Fighting Irish. Zack Weir has a 5-4 record with a 3.66 goals against average, and a .892 save percentage. Darren Smith has a 1-2 record with a 5.81 goals against average, and a .873 save percentage. Tyler Fassl has a 2-0 record with a 2.34 goals against average, and a .930 save percentage. Ben Nelson has a 0-1 record with a 5.37 goals against average, and a .870 save percentage.

Next Game: The Fighting Irish welcome Tilbury to the Allman Arena on December 27. This is the first meeting between the two teams.

 

MITCHELL HAWKS

Record: 6-17-2-0-1-1

Top Scorers: Ben tenHag leads the Hawks with 27 points on the season. He also leads the team in goals and assists with 11 and 16 respectively.

Goalies: It’s been a rough start for the goalies. Aidan Hill is 2-11 with a 4.32 goals against average, and a .880 save percentage. Colin Gibbings meanwhile is 3-3-2 on the season with a 4.34 goals against average and a .889 save percentage. 

Next Game: Mitchell is back in action on the road on January 3 when they take on Wingham. Wingham has dominated the season series winning all four meetings.

 

TAVISTOCK BRAVES

Record: 9-18-1-0-1

Top Scorers: Grady Murphy leads the Braves with 21 points. Murphy, along with Jacob Reid-Brant and Carter Arseneau lead the team with 9 goals each. Tyler Brezynskie leads the Braves with 14 assists. 

Goalies: Lander Hartley is 5-8-1 on the season with a 3.68 goals against average, and a .882 save percentage. Meanwhile, Kaden Lange is 4-8 on the season with a 3.76 goals against average, and a .875 save percentage. 

Next Game: Tavistock welcomes nearby rivals Woodstock on January 3. The teams have split the season series 2-2.
