Ethan Martin takes a draw for the Spitfires

Ethan Martin grew up playing hockey in his hometown of Stratford, but is now focused on extending his career with the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League.

This is Martin’s fourth season with Windsor, dating back to 2021 when he  was drafted in the fourth round by Windsor with pick number 76. That season he split time with the Warriors and the Spits.

“When I first got drafted by Windsor I was pumped,” said Martin. “It’s only about two and a half hours from Stratford, so it's close to home, and I am honoured to play for the Spits.”

Last season was a tough one for Windsor, as the team finished last in the Western Conference winning only 18 games, and Martin put up 12 points for the team. It was a far cry from the year before when they finished with 44 wins. This year, Martin has liked what he's seen so far.

“The preseason has been good,” said Martin. “We have a lot of new faces this season, but we are looking good so far.”

The winger is focused on doing whatever the team asks of him, including battling in the corners and in front of the net.

“I honestly do what the coaches and my teammates need me to do,” said Martin. “If they want me to be a physical presence or be reliable offensively and defensively I will do my best.”

With the regular season right around the corner, there are a few dates circled on the calendar for Martin.

“We have lots of rivals, but for me its extra special playing London and Kitchener,” said Martin. “London is only an hour away from home, while Kitchener is only 45 minutes away, it makes those games that much more exciting.”

Windsor will be in London December 13, January 10, and March 21, while the team will be in Kitchener on March 7.

The Spitfires open up the regular season on September 25 against Saginaw, and Martin is looking forward to it.

“Windsor is a special place,” said Martin. “The Spits are a great organization and the fans are even better."
