The Stratford Fighting Irish opened the Western Ontario Super Hockey League playoffs with a one-sided road win in Petrolia Friday night, downing the Squires 8-2.

It was a very balanced attack for the Irish, as six different players had at least one goal. Mitch Casey and Christian Polillo netted two apiece, while Matt Fuller, Zach Magwood, Thomas Hernandez and Ryan Obonsawin had one apiece. Zach Weir stopped 34 of 36 shots to earn the win between the pipes.

Game 2 of the series is scheduled for Saturday night in Stratford at the Allman Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m. (weather permitting).
