The Stratford & District Historical Society presents a viewing of “Under This Roof” from their historical documentary series called “Historically Speaking.”

It is the story of 77 Brunswick St., Stratford, Ont., a 157-year-old house that was saved and renovated by James Anderson, Stratford’s first archivist.

The documentary examines the history of the house from the renovation to the most recent owner, artist Gerard Brender à Brandis.

In this documentary you will observe local artisans and well known authors Gerard Brender à Brandis and his sister Marianne Brandis, speak about the artist, the archivist and the last of the Greek Revival Cottages.

Enjoy watching Gerard Brender à Brandis sketching his orchids, observing the intricate process of engraving a wood block and the subsequent inking and printing on a century old Albion printing press.

The narrative exchanges between Gerald and his sister Marianne paint a vivid picture of sibling respect and a mutual appreciation of each other’s extraordinary talents.
