Snow Squall Warning in effect for:
- Stratford - Mitchell - Southern Perth County
- Listowel - Milverton - Northern Perth County
- Mount Forest - Arthur - Northern Wellington County
Lake effect snow squalls expected through Friday. Blowing snow conditions likely this morning.
Hazards: Locally heavy snowfall with accumulations of 15 to 20 cm by Friday. Westerly winds gusting up to 70 km/h resulting in very poor visibility at times in blowing snow. Peak snowfall rates of 3 to 6 cm per hour.
Timing: Continuing into Friday, with the worst blowing snow conditions likely this morning.
Discussion: Lake effect snow squalls off Lake Huron have developed in the wake of a strong cold front. Strong westerly winds gusting up to 70 km/h this morning will result in widespread blowing snow and significantly reduced visibility at times. Winds should diminish somewhat this afternoon although lake effect snow will continue into Friday. The highest snowfall amounts are expected closer to Lake Huron.
Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Road closures are possible. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
