The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority is teaming up with the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation for an annual event in Mitchell.

“The TD Friends of the Environment Foundation has been running the TD Tree Day events since 2010,” said Carolyn Scotchmer, the executive director. “It’s part of our focus on protecting and maintaining the work that enhances trees across Canada.”

This year, the two groups are teaming up for the TD Tree Days on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 9 a.m.- 12 p.m. at the Husky Flats in Mitchell.

“Each year we assess the communities in the area to find the greatest need,” said Scotchmer. “We have planted in Mitchell six times since the start of the program.”

The planting of trees in Mitchell will help with the watersheds, and help boost the forest cover in the area.

“The collaboration between us and the conservation authority has been fantastic,” said Scotchmer. “ Combined we have collaborated on over 40 projects.”

Volunteers are encouraged to come out and help with the event, which is an area the event has been successful in attracting.

“This is an important program to us,” said Scotchmer. “It’s so fantastic to see how enthusiastic the community is, and it provides us a chance to get our hands dirty and work alongside our community members.”
