The total is below what was raised last year, and pre-pandemic numbers, though this year participation of the Sunday event was slightly up

The local Terry Fox Run has raised just under $15,000 this year, slightly below last year’s take-home.

Rena Spevack Orr, the organizer of the Stratford Terry Fox Run, told StratfordToday that so far the total raised is $14,395, slightly below last year’s over $17,000.

She noted that more money may trickle in, though is unsure since it has been a few days since the run occurred.

Although the amount raised was less than last year’s, they still had a great turnout.

“We had a great day with almost 100 participants,” Orr said in an emailed statement. “The participation was boosted by a Stratford Warriors hockey team (U15 boys) so it was a bit up compared with last year. We are still getting back to pre-COVID numbers and I hope that in future years the numbers will continue to improve.”

The run was held across the country on Sunday, Sept. 17. In-person participants in Stratford started at Upper Queen’s Park, walking or running through the park.

Participants also wrote why they were participating on a memory board, writing the names of those who they are remembering and why the Terry Fox Run is still meaningful.

Orr also indicated that she is considering stepping back as coordinator of the run.

Having been the community organizer since 1999, Orr said she is willing to work with someone in a transition.

“It takes some planning to ensure a stable future for the Terry Fox Run in Stratford,” Orr said.
