NEWS RELEASE
KINSMEN CLUB OF STRATFORD
*************************
The Kinsmen Club of Stratford held a spring ”Drive through Bottle Drive” Saturday, May 25 at Stricklands Toyota, which garnered $356 in returnable beer, liquor and wine bottles and cans.
The club added to that total and stopped in at Wellspring Cancer Support and gave them a cheque for $2,000 in support of their community programs.
Located at 55 Lorne St., Wellspring offers programs and services at no charge to those experiencing cancer, and their caregivers and loved ones.
The programs and services are funded solely through the generosity of individuals and organizations in the community.
Chartered in 1945, the Kinsmen Club of Stratford was one of the most recognized service clubs in the city and at one time had more than 75 active members and is part of Kin Canada.
Kin is Canada’s largest all-Canadian service organization, made up of Canadian men and women who gather together in clubs to volunteer their time for the purpose of bettering their communities by performing hands-on service work, raising funds for important community projects and having fun.
Stratford Kinsmen's major fundraising and service projects over the past 65 plus years have included Allman Arena Booth, Canada Day and Santa Claus parades, Canada Day fireworks, Stratford Blues and Ribfest, high school bursaries and Cystic Fibrosis to name a few.
This past year the Kinsmen have made financial donations to the Stratford Hospital Foundation, Wellspring for Cancer, Rotary Aquabox, Jakes Bowling fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House, Connections Centre, Stratford Library Snack Stop, gym equipment for a new outdoor facility by the skate park, cystic fibrosis and two high school bursaries.
The Stratford Kinsmen will be hosting a couple of events in the next four months where if you would like to support them with a free will donation there will be a donation bucket available.
All proceeds received from these events are used in the community.
On Monday, July 1 there's the Canada Day Concert and Fireworks celebration at the SERC Park between Matilda and Foreman St.
Kinsmen have been hosting the fireworks for over 30 years. Come early to get a good spot, and bring a lawn chair or blanket. The food vendors will be starting at 7:30 p.m. The Canada Day concert begins at 8 p.m. with the fireworks at dusk.
Then on Sunday, Sept. 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. it is the ever popular Fall Classic Car show on Lakeside Drive at the lake. Free to all car buffs with over 200 classics and a 50/50 draw.
