Perth County is pleased to announce the results of the inaugural year of the Perth County Stewardship Program. The 2024 program will support for the planting of 14,955 trees and one woodlot assessment. This year the program offered several intake streams: The Forest Health Assessment stream supports landowners working with Registered Professional Foresters to analyze their woodlots; the Community Planting stream to support tree planting on public lands or by community groups; and the Private Planting stream for individual landowners completing stewardship programs across agricultural and rural lands.

“It is fantastic to know that there is a strong demand for stewardship and tree planting projects in Perth County,” Hannah Cann, resiliency and stewardship coordinator for the County stated. “To also see the impressive project value of $277,000 being invested in sustainable farm practice projects such as windbreaks (77 per cent of all the applications submitted), is a shining example of our agricultural community positively impacting their surrounding environments”.

Demand for the program was high, bringing in 45 applications, one in the Forest Health Assessment stream, five in the Community Planting stream, and 38 in the Private Planting stream. The budget for the 2024 program was $75,000, but the total requested funds amounted to $101,447 with a total project value equalling $276,641. 90 per cent of the applications received grant support.

Through the support of the Perth County Stewardship Program, Perth East, Perth South, West Perth, and North Perth are all completing local community planting programs and tree sales throughout 2024.

Perth County is committed to cultivating a greener future through the Stewardship Program. The intake for 2025 will be opening in Autumn 2025. For more information about the program and to access application information, visit the website
