The cold weather warning issued by Environment Canada has now ended for Stratford and area, though temperatures remain well below zero today and this week.
In light of the frigid temperatures, the City of Stratford is reminding residents to stay warm and that its facilities are open to the public for warming up.
They include:
- City Hall at 1 Wellington St. - open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- The Stratford Rotary Complex at 353 McCarthy Rd W. - open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Stratford Public Library at 19 St. Andrew St. - open Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Cold weather risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
Environment Canada is reminding citizens to watch for cold-related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.
Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
