It’s that time of year again.
Starting this week, the City of Stratford will begin its spring hydrant flushing.
The city does flushing twice a year – typically in the spring and fall – to clean out some of the iron deposits that build up over time in watermains and as preventative maintenance, according to a post on the city’s Facebook page.
The flushing schedule is not fixed.
It changes every day depending on a number of factors, including the weather, availability of staff, and the length of time it takes to clear the hydrants in a neighbourhood.
Residents may temporarily experience discoloured water as a result of this flushing process but water quality is not affected. Discoloured water will clear, but it’s best to wait until it has cleared before doing laundry.
