It’s an event that saw over 1,500 people attend during a snow storm. Now celebrating its 30th anniversary is the Alzheimer Society of Huron Perth’s Soup’s On event.
“This event brings people of all ages together to taste different soups,” said Erin Dale, the manager of fund development and communications with the Alzheimer Society Huron Perth. Soup’s On takes place on Saturday, Jan. 11 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Stratford Rotary Complex.
This year's event will feature entertainment with live music from Stratford’s Bette Reynolds, who recently appeared on the Voice UK and will take the stage at 12:45 p.m. There will also be a kid's area and a silent auction.
“This year we also have a premium live auction as well,” said Dale. “It’s a four course dinner or family style dinner with high-end wine pairing, and it even has a personal chef attached to it.”
Thanks to over 20 different sponsors help make the Soup’s On event a bowl of success.
“Our sponsors are what makes the event, we couldn’t do it without them,” said Dale.
It’s because of the sponsors that the admission cost is by donation, and the only cost is $5 for five sample tickets to try the soups. Also this year there is a very generous donor who is matching donations.
“With this year being our 30 year anniversary, generous donor James Hutton will be matching donations up to $30,000,” said Dale. “He is doing this in memory of his parents, Mona and Albert.”
This year's lineup includes the following soup presentations: Alley Cat Cat Cafe, Alzheimer Society Huron Perth, Avon Co-operative Nursery School, Boston Pizza, Cedarcroft Place, Celebrate Recovery, Chartwell Anne Hathaway, Connection Chiropractic, Co-operators / Black Angus Bakery & Catering, Festival Hydro/Rhyzome Networks, GC Financial Solutions Group Inc.,Gilly's Pubhouse, Hillside Manor, Joe's Diner, Mercer Kitchen Beer Hall, Orr Insurance & Investment, Pazzo, Soup Surreal, Stratford & District Agricultural Society, Stratford Country Club - 53 North Restaurant, Stratford Cygnets Preschool, Stratford Warriors Hockey Club, Stratford Winterfest, The Bruce Hotel, The Cheese Shoppe, The Little Green Grocery, The Little Kitchen on York, The Local Community Food Centre, The Parlour Inn, The Starlight, and Tri-County Brick Company.
“One of the things we don’t mention unless people do it themselves is what kind of soups will be offered,” said Dale. “Everything is kind of a surprise but we have a great selection of soups.”
