The sixth annual Stratford Perth Rotary Hospice 'Light of Love' Holiday Campaign is back, taking place at the hospice on Friday, Nov. 27 starting at 7 p.m.

“It’s a memorial ceremony where you can dedicate a light in honour and memory of a loved one,” said Lucie Stewart, the director of fund development and stewardship for Rotary Hospice.

The hospice has taken advantage of the abnormally warm November and have already hung up the lights. All that awaits is the official turning on of the lights on November 27. The community is encouraged to join in the event and celebrate with families.

“Families or individuals can dedicate a light in memory, and provide a donation of any size, which comes back to the hospice,” said Stewart. “Everyone who dedicates will be able to share a message which will be put onto a slideshow which will play that night, and be put up on our website until the end of the year.”

Staff at the hospice will bring remarks, and a family will say a few words in dedication to a loved one at the hospice pavilion. The lights will then be plugged in, and everyone will enjoy a candle lit walk to the front doors to view the slideshow.

“People who watch the slideshow, always comment that they remember this person or that person,” said Stewart. “It’s really a way to help keep the memory of our loved ones alive.”

Following the ceremony there will be hot chocolate and soup for all to enjoy. The event is open to the entire community, not just those who have had a family member pass away at the local hospice.
