There are still a few spots left for the second annual Carter Collens Memorial Golf Fundraiser.

“There are options to golf nine or eighteen holes, or just join us for a smoked pork chop dinner, " said Angela Collens. “We will also have a silent auction, a Happy Gilmore inspired putting competition which will be done with a hockey stick instead of a golf club, and a closest to the pin on hole 7 to commemorate the day Carter passed.”

The golf fundraiser will take place at the Mitchell Golf and Country Club on Saturday, Sept. 21 starting at 12 p.m. The cost to golf the full 18 holes is $130, while the cost to golf nine holes is $100. Both prices have the golf, a cart, a buffet dinner included.

People are also invited to just join in on the fun by coming out for the smoked pork chop dinner for $45.

“We had 80 people attend last year, and we  raised just over $3000,” said Collens.

This year, proceeds raised will go towards the Stratford Perth Humane Society, The Local Community Food Network, and Shelterlink Youth Services. The City of Stratford has also approved plans for the family to purchase a memorial bench which will go in Lorne Avenue Park. A lot of the supporters participating are family and friends of Carter’s.

“He was so outgoing and had a huge social circle,” said Collens. “He was always so upbeat, considering he had a lot of struggles throughout his life including a concussion at a young age and mental health issues, but he always tried to be there for his friends. The day is all about having a good time, because that is what Carter would have wanted.”
