SDSS hands out athletic awards

Athletes were recognized for their efforts - hard work and dedication to both sport and academics

An athletic banquet at Stratford District Secondary School Wednesday honoured athletes, coaches, community volunteers, and support staff and doubled as a celebration of the first full year of sports for the Golden Bears. 

Athletes were recognized for their efforts - hard work and dedication to both sport and academics. 

Thirty teams from SDSS competed in the Huron Perth conference, 20 competed at WOSSAA and four took part in OFSAA championships. 

Award highlights: 

Golden Bear Award - This athlete demonstrated an outstanding contribution to high school athletics throughout their high school career.
Recipient:  Reid Baillie

Golden Paws Award - This student did an exemplary job of assisting with the running and administration of athletics at SDSS, in the form of being a team manager, scorekeeping, officiating, fundraising, etc.
Recipient: Cole Cassone and Claudia Eckstein

Golden Spirit Award - Awarded to a teammate or individual who demonstrates a true love for the game or sport. They’ve demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship towards teammates, opponents and officials. They always attend practice and give their best effort (leading by example).
Recipient: Meg Feore

Principal’s Award -This is awarded to a student committed to athletics at SDSS while maintaining an exemplary academic average in their courses.
Recipient: Milena Barlow

Junior Female Athlete of the Year -  This award is given to the athlete who has excelled athletically throughout the current school year.  
Recipient: Mckenzie Parsons

Junior Male Athlete of the Year - This award is given to the athlete who has excelled athletically throughout the current school year.  
Recipient: Tyson Cassone

Senior Female Athlete of the Year -  This award is given to the athlete who has excelled athletically throughout the current school year.  
Recipient: Avery Thurston

Senior Male Athlete of the Year - This award is given to the athlete who has excelled athletically throughout the current school year.  
Recipient: Charlie Kuepfer
