Stratford and area residents are invited to attend Remembrance Day at the Cenotaph in Stratford, marking the day the First World War ended in 1918.

Veterans, cadets, first responders and associated groups will march from Albert Street led by the Stratford Police Pipes and Drums. The group will form up at 10:30 a.m. Friday and arrive at the Cenotaph for a 10:45 a.m. service. The public are welcome.

Per tradition, the two-minute silence will be held at 11 a.m. on the 11th day of the 11th month, honouring Canadians who have died in the war.

Community members who wish to watch the service at home can watch the live broadcast beginning at 10:45 a.m. on Rogers TV (Cable 20 and rogerstv.com), as well as a webcast on Ballinran Entertainment’s YouTube channel.

This year’s ceremony will feature a parade, bands, the traditional laying of the wreaths and the return of a children’s choir. After the ceremony, attendees can put their own items and poppies on the steps of the cenotaph.

People may wish to wear masks and, if possible, should maintain social distancing.
