It's no April Fool's joke: The doors to the former Mercury Theatre building in St. Marys will be open to the public April 1 for the first time in almost two decades.

From 9-11 a.m., the town is hosting an open house at the historic site, now known simply as 14 Church St. N. The event is part of the public engagement process for the downtown service location review.

The review is being done to determine the best use of 14 Church St. N and the town’s other downtown service locations: Town Hall, the St. Marys Public Library, and the St. Marys Train Station, according to a news release. The goal is to make it easier for residents to access municipal services in the downtown area.

“We purchased 14 Church St. N with a vision of creating a campus of municipal services in the core,” says CAO Brent Kittmer. “Now we’re turning to the public to ask what those services should be, where they should be located, and how they should be delivered.”

Residents will have an opportunity to explore parts of the building, speak to staff, and share feedback on the downtown review. Those who plan to attend should wear warm clothing and closed-toe shoes.

Residents will also have a chance to provide input through a public survey, which will open on April 1. The survey will be available through the town’s website. Printed copies will also be provided at town facilities.
