A friendly competition among police officers has led to hundreds of lives potentially saved.

From Nov. 1, 2024 to Jan. 31, 2025, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Perth County Auxiliary Unit led a challenge where three teams, Perth County OPP, Huron County OPP, and Stratford Police Service competed in a blood drive titled the Season of Giving. The teams were tasked with donating blood during that time period.

This competition was spearheaded by Perth County OPP's Auxiliary Unit in coordination with Canadian Blood Services who graciously donated a trophy to the winning team. The losing team agreed to volunteer a member to receive a pie in the face.

As a result of this competition, 51 units of blood were donated in total. Each unit of blood has the potential of saving up to the lives. That's 153 lives potentially saved as a direct result of this competition.

Ten units were donated from Stratford Police Service, 15 units from Huron County OPP and 26 units from Perth County OPP.

There is always a need for regular blood donations and the power to save lives is in you. Perth OPP want to encourage everyone to find a donor centre near you by visiting blood.ca to get out and donate.
