Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid 287 charges, and responded to 74 motor vehicle collisions including one fatality during the month of January.
Of the charges laid 157 were highway traffic related, while 21 were criminally traffic related including 108 e-ticket warnings, 48 speeding charges, and 19 impaired driving charges.
In terms of violent crimes, police laid six assault or firearm related charges, six charges for other violent offences, and three sexual related offences.
There were 44 property crimes charges laid with theft under $5,000 (18), fraud (13), and break and enter and mischief (5 each) leading the way.
The OPP responded to 22 mental health calls, with 13 being related to the mental health act, six attempted or threatened suicides, and three family or domestic related calls.
In the 1,783.75 patrol hours conducted by Perth OPP, only three drugs were laid.
Most categories saw a downward tick, except property crimes which three more were reported this year over last January, and one more drug offence during this time period was also reported. Violent crime was down nine offences, and over all charges laid was down 149 over the same time last year.
