Perth OPP kept busy in 2024

Perth County OPP were kept busy in 2024, as a report is coming to the Perth County Police Service Board next week that outlines calls for service throughout the year. 

The local OPP laid 5,760 charges last year, with the vast majority involving the Highway Traffic Act (4,225 charges laid). There were 711 motor vehicle collisions in 2024, which is up over 11 per cent from the year before, and they resulted in eight fatalities. 

In 2024, Perth OPP responded to 275 violent crimes. There was one homicide during the year, while assaults or firearms-related crimes combined for 143 calls. There were 77 threat calls, and 50 sexual office calls. 

Calls regarding property crime really kept Perth OPP busy, as there were 717 property crimes reported. Of that figure, 233 were for theft under $5,000, while 156 were for fraud and 134 were for break and enters. Another 107 were mischief calls. 

Mental health calls continued to rise in Perth County, with 323 counted last year. There were only 19 drug-related crimes reported in Perth County, and four overdoses, including one that was fatal. 

There were 103 charges laid against youth by Perth OPP, and 19 lead to convictions and 16 lead to diversions while one charge was not accepted. 

The report will come back to the Perth County Police Services Board on Tuesday for information.
