It’s time to select the 2023 recipient of the Accessibility Award, and the committee overseeing it wants to hear your thoughts.
For the past 12 years, Stratford's Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) has acknowledged one business, organization, or individual that has worked hard to make their space or service more accessible to everyone.
The committee is looking for assistance in choosing and honouring someone locally that supports the idea that all citizens should move freely and without restriction through our city.
This business, group or individual may have made physical renovations or created services to better serve the public.
Last year’s winner was MacLeods Scottish Shop. Owner Rob Russell completed renovations which include a zero-threshold entrance way (no step to get in), an automatic door opener, aisles wide enough for wheelchairs to travel between, clear overhead lighting, and a front desk that is at a comfortable height for anyone using a mobility aid.
Nominations can also be made for any business, group or individual that has worked to advocate with others to promote accessibility and create equal opportunities for all. Past nominees are welcome to apply again.
The AAC is asking for nominations to be made by Friday, Nov. 17. Nominations can be submitted to [email protected] or through an online nomination form on its website.
