The calls for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to resign have been growing, both within and outside of the Liberal Party. Late last week NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh announced he plans to bring forward a vote of no confidence against Trudeau.
Conservative MP for Perth-Wellington John Nater provided StratfordToday with a statement outlining how baffled he is with Singh’s comments.
“It’s rather disingenuous for Jagmeet Singh and the NDP to now claim that they will vote 'no confidence' in the Prime Minister and the Liberal government after voting eight times to protect Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government over the past three months. In fact, earlier this month, the NDP voted against a non-confidence motion made up entirely of Jagmeet Singh’s own words. Only now that Parliament is closed and there is no chance to introduce any motions for several weeks and perhaps months has Jagmeet Singh and the NDP claimed they will introduce and support such a motion. Only our common sense conservative team has consistently voted to give Canadians the opportunity to pass judgement at the ballot box.”
Following the resignation of long-time supporter Chrystia Freeland, the number of Liberal MPs calling for Trudeau’s resignation has risen to 21 publicly, but reports state that number could be much closer to the 50 mark.
Efforts to reach the Liberal MP representing London North, Peter Fragiskatos, weren't successful by the time this article was published.
